Gent: Castle

Description

Another photo from Gent.

The castle there is called the Gravensteen or Steen, the castle of the count. They started building it in the eleventh century although as with most castles, what you're looking at is the product of centuries of adding and rebuilding and tweaking the sunroof, as it were.

With this specific castle the history's a bit more complicated when around the industrial revolution they used it as a factory hall, the thing got so clogged with buildings it was almost forgotten until it was dug out again at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Uhm. Castle is pretty?

Also we had really beautiful blue skies that day. Also also, can you spot the anachronism in this photo?
